Bishop James Richard Evans, Sr. is the Founder, Visionary, and Senior Pastor of Divine Restoration Ministries. Bishop Evans is a man committed to serving his God and community with all of his resources. He and his high-school sweetheart, Pastor Tenisia Evans serve as an excellent example of teamwork, having built a strong relationship, they are able to proclaim that they have been together longer than they have been apart! Happily married, their union has been blessed with five beautiful children James Jr. (Brittany), Jacob, Jenisia, Jasmine, and Jordan; and five grandchildren: Jordyn, James, III, Jonathan Blake, Journee, & Justin.
Ministry beckoned for Bishop J. Richard Evans at an age when most young men are only interested in themselves. He answered the call to ministry and began serving first as a parking attendant and then as a youth leader. He became a Youth Pastor soon after and led many young people to the Lord as a result.
After much prayer, Bishop Evans started Divine Restoration Ministries in August of 1998. He entered ministry full time in July of 1999, and countless lives have been changed and restored. He has since faithfully served under the leadership of both Bishop David E. Martin of Dallas, TX in the Rhema Fellowship of Churches and the late Apostle V. Benjamin Washington of Detroit, MI in the Five Fold Ministry Fellowship.
In 2008, the Lord directed Bishop Evans to align himself with the Greater Works of Christ Fellowship, under the leadership of Apostle Wayne T. Jackson, Great Faith Ministries International. He and Pastor Tenisia Evans were consecrated as a Son and Daughter as they submitted to the spiritual parentage of Apostle Wayne T. and Dr. Beverly Y. Jackson. In January of 2015, they were elevated to the Apostolic offices of Bishop and Pastor respectively.
Bishop Evans has expanded his horizons even the more by accepting the fullness of his calling. He launched J. Richard Evans Ministries in the fall of 2006, a ministry geared towards youth and young adults. The ministry has seen a great increase as youth and teens are dedicating their lives to the Lord and serving in the ministry.
A natural-born leader, Bishop Evans, has always had a passion for training and instructing others. In the year 2008, the Restoration Fellowship of Churches and Associations was born; a unique organization that provides training and guidance to the five-fold ministry gifts, wounded pastors, and displaced leaders. The motto of RFCA is REFOCUS: Restoring the Environment of Faith, Obedience, Communication, and Unity in the Spirit. In 2018, Bishop Evans relaunched his reformation with the moniker, Restoration of Churches International Fellowship.
Bishop Evans has a very generous heart and is always seeking new ways to help his community. Each year since 2001, he and Pastor Evans have blessed families in need for Christmas through the Gifts For All God’s Children’s Program. In past years, teen moms have been assisted through the partnership of the Southeastern Village Coalition, Charles Vincent Continuing Education Center and Catherine Ferguson Academy.
In 2006, Phase Two of Restoration House Community Center was launched: Rest House. It provides transitional housing in an effort to bring restoration to the total man. Rest House brings candidates into a living situation that provides them with the training and supervision needed to transition them from homelessness and helplessness to becoming self sufficient and productive members of society.
In June of 2007, Divine Restoration Ministries Mt. Clemens Church was born, providing ministry in the heart of Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Birthed and bathed in prayer, Mt. Clemens soon began to thrive as evangelistic teams canvassed the neighborhoods with prayer and flyers, pulling in souls from varied backgrounds, classes, and races. After only one year, the Mt. Clemens Church transitioned from worshiping in a hotel meeting room to the historic edifice, Grace Episcopal Church. On September 5th, 2010, Divine Restoration Ministries – Mt. Clemens held it’s first service in The Lincoln Early Childhood Center. Hearing the voice of the Lord, Bishop combined services for the Detroit and Mt. Clemens churches in 2013. The Mt. Clemens families proved that true sheep will follow their shepherd by joining their Detroit sisters and brothers every week for worship.
Spreading the gospel has always been at the heart of Bishop Evans' vision, so it was no surprise that in 2008 Restoration Today Radio Ministry was launched on WEXL 1340AM. For five years Bishop and Pastor Evans' voices were heard across the Metro-Detroit area. In 2012, radio was paused to pursue television as Bishop & Pastor Evans joined the Impact Television Network Family, the first African-American, Owned and Operated Christian Television Network! In the summer of 2017, Restoration Today Radio Ministry reconnected with WEXL 1340AM & 96.7FM to the elation of listeners across Michigan. In the first week alone, listeners excitedly poured in calls. In the spring of 2018, Restoration Today Radio Ministry joined the WPZR 102.7FM Family to the elation of listeners, increasing the strength and reach of the our radio ministry.
Bishop and Pastor Evans are the founders and CEOs of the Restoration House Community Center, a resource center with a huge vision that includes a food and clothing distribution center, health fairs, referral services, housing, adult education, and job training. Meeting the natural and physical needs of the community, RHCC at its’ peak serviced 400+ families per month between the two campuses.
